It is today, on World Diabetes Day, that we have the great pleasure of announcing the winner of the sanofi-aventis U.S. Innovation Challenge: Ginger.io.
Ginger.io transforms a mobile phone into an automatic self-monitoring tool for tracking real-time movement patterns and social interactions passively, without user input. In the words of Hilary Mason, Chief Scientist at Bit.ly and a Challenge judge, “This is an app that demonstrates a fundamentally new technical innovation with wide applications.”
As the Challenge winner, Ginger.io has received $100,000 and a one-month residency at the Rock Health incubator in San Francisco to further develop their application.
“We are honored to be named the winner of the Data, Design, Diabetes Innovation Challenge. We want to thank sanofi-aventis and Chewable for their leadership in catalyzing innovation to improve the lives of those with diabetes. We are using the $100,000 prize to fund a pilot study to assess the impact of our social support system. Much love to the community for your support!” – Karan Singh and Anmol Madan, Co-Founders, Ginger.io
Many thanks to everyone who made this Challenge possible: our esteemed judges, our experienced mentors, and all the applicants who submitted their innovative ideas to improve the lives of people living with diabetes. Our hope is that the Challenge yields many winners and that applicants continue developing their solutions to serve the needs of the millions of people living with diabetes.
